STIL has been an interesting journey in many senses. The original purpose of getting to know the possibilities of northern countryside and to encourage cycling along the northern roads has become true in many places. We have identified several great routes of which many are situated on the national borders giving additional value of getting the best out of each area. And there are still many routes and side attractions to be found.
We have also learned that mountain biking prevails in north. In some cases, gravel roads or even paths have turned out to be good options but we have stuck to our original idea of slow travelling which means that bike combined to public transportation is the main means of transport.
In any case, it seems to be the right time to develop cycling tourism.

More development in regard to services and infrastructure for STIL routes is needed, and hints for the developers and other actors is given in our fact sheet (see below). We hope that municipalities and businesses will adopt our work and start to develop slow travel on this basis. Some hints of that already exist as one product from Inari to Arctic Ocean has already been arranged and some municipalities are continuing with their own development projects.
